Hilary Taylor
Born in Northern Ireland, I was lucky enough to grow up in the countryside and by the sea and it is these two environments that inspire and inform my work. I am particularly drawn to forests and coastlines and the variety of colour and texture that appears here is what I try to convey in my paintings. I want you to feel as though you could reach out and pick a flower, feel the earth, touch the rocks.
My current work is inspired by the many walks I take, along with a love of humble grass verges and wildflowers – I am intrigued by the way that plants layer and layer upon each other and all seem to be reaching for the same sky. I work predominantly in Acrylic using brushes, palette knives (or whatever comes to hand on occasion!) to convey a feeling of place.
