Matilda Wilkinson
Matilda Wilkinson is a multi-disciplinary artist born and based in West London. The concepts of sexuality, female repression and endless distorted space operate at the forefront of her work. From an outsider’s perspective, expect both the illusionist space to provoke a feeling of fragility, as well as a surprising amused response due to the absurdity of imagery within her work. She incorporates a clear difference between aesthetic space and theoretical space; misleading the eye and creating visuals that we cannot perceive. Ultimately raising questions about uncertain proportions and infinity. Curiosity in the female model and patriarchal power dynamics have always been vital to the development of her work. She explores femininity and womanhood to highlight the construction of iconography within misogyny She juxtaposes the ancient with contemporary, using elements such as original medieval drawings in collage form, modern objects, furniture, fashion and both a mixture of traditional and processed colour.
