Scarlett Bowman
My work is formed by the basic attributes of collage; juxtaposing various parts to make a whole, putting one thing together with another thing. A playful engagement with material exploration, colour and form. Found everyday ephemera are removed from their original context and reassembled to create entirely new narratives. Highly tactile, my paintings are formed by loose mark making in contrast with large areas of colour from various materials. Playfully distorting the components that make the very structure of the painting. Employing traditional craft based processes such as assemblage, collage and stitch, Bowman explores the physical experience of handling her materials.
